When high school student Tohru Honda moves into the home of her classmate Yuki Sohma following a landslide that destroys her tent, she accidentally falls on Kyo Sohma. This moment triggers his transformation into a cat, revealing to her the family's dark secret: twelve members are possessed by zodiac spirits, while Kyo is possessed by the excluded cat spirit. Tohru promises silence and continues living with them, becoming a positive influence despite the curse stretching deeper than she initially realizes. As the series progresses through 136 chapters serialized from July 1998 to November 2006, Kyo endures the pain of his family's treatment while learning more about Tohru and how much others care for her.
